The MINI Vision Next 100 Concept Gives Sneak Peak Into MINI’s Future

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

MINI’s latest concept, the MINI Vision Next 100, shows off what MINI thinks the future of driving and travel will be like. The MINI Vision Next 100 Concept is designed to be a part of a car sharing. With a car company, like MINI, that’s all about personalization, the idea of sharing a a car seems foreign to most of us. That being said, this concept car still keeps true to MINI’s heart. That’s because it’s still personalized!

That’s right, MINI has added technology to this car to enable it to still be personalized while at the same time being shared between people. The exterior of the MINI Vision Next 100 will project a personalized greeting onto the ground next tto the car before opening its doors to welcome you in. Once you get inside the car, those little personalization touches don’t stop. The car would be able to talk to you using circles of changing lights (which we envision to be like a traffic light type of system, but who really knows at this point), and the MINI would even suggest new routes for your drive. Imagine a car telling you to go a different way and saving you loads of time on your ride to work, to the store, or home!

We love the direction MINI is going with all the new technology they have and can’t wait to see what else they have coming our way soon!

Steve and Miles (and Traveling Stories)

This afternoon while motoring to lunch, I happened to see Steve and Miles.

Steve and Miles rd - 1

Of course, when I originally saw them, I did not know they were Steve and Miles. Instead, I immediately made up a story in my head. It was a story about a man walking through East Liberty, leading a goat (and of course the goat had on a saddle). Go ahead, take a minute and make up your own story, I’ll wait. Done? Fun, wasn’t it?

Luckily, since coming to MINI, I have learned that there are many interesting people out there with great adventures to tell about. So I took a few minutes to travel outside my comfort zone and meet this young man and his traveling companion.

Turns out that his name is Steve Wescott and his partner is Miles. The next part is what blew me away. It turns out that Steve is walking across America to raise awareness and funds for an orphanage in Africa named Uzima Outreach. He started in Seattle on May 2, 2012 and has been walking ever since.

Steve and Miles - 1

Now, if you go back to that story you had in your head a few minutes ago, did it have any of the following words in it: Seattle, Africa, Orphanage and/or walking? Yeah, mine didn’t either.

I think the reason I wanted to share this story on our MINI Blog, is that sometimes it is the little parts of a journey that can make all of the difference. If I hadn’t taken an extra second to meet a fellow traveller, I might have remembered this interaction as some (insert derogatory phrase here) and his goat wandering the streets of East Liberty instead of being inspired by someone who is doing his part in trying to make the world a better place, one step at a time.

Happy (and Meaningful) Motoring!

Chris

Keeping your MINI Happy and Healthy!

Oil Change

Checking your MINI’s oil level from time to time, and topping off when necessary, will help you to keep your engine happy and healthy!

Maintaining the correct engine oil level is extremely important as it ensures that there is enough oil to properly lubricate all of the moving parts, helping to minimize internal engine wear.

Many people don’t realize that engine oil is also a primary means, in conjunction with the cooling system, by which heat is dissipated from the engine. Heat is transferred away from the moving parts inside the engine via the oil circulating throughout. If there’s not enough oil in the engine, this transfer of heat can’t take place effectively.

That doesn’t mean very high heat levels still aren’t present in a healthy engine. Little by little, your motor oil begins to burn off, shrinking the total amount of fluid in the system. If this oil isn’t replaced, then you run the risk of vital engine parts being exposed and open to heat damage and corrosion.

Checking your oil can tell you where this level is and if you should refill. The first part to this process is locating the oil dipstick in your engine. It typically looks like a little yellow ring. Pull it out, wipe off the oil, and stick it back in. When you pull it out again, look at where the bead of oil falls on the stick in relation to the markings. If it looks good, don’t worry about it.

If you need to top of the oil in your MINI, look for a large cap on the top of the engine (located on the valve cover).  Oil should never be added through the dip-stick tube. When adding oil, do so a little at a time and recheck after each addition until the proper amount has been reached.

Remembering to periodically check your MINI’s engine oil level, and following these simple steps can help to keep your MINI motoring longer. For more helpful tips and MINI-centric info, visit MINIofPittsburgh.com or give us a call anytime at 412-682-0788.

Need Something to Do in Pittsburgh? Stop by Dancing in the Square

If you are looking for something fun to do in the Pittsburgh area, check out the Dancing in the Square event. Held every Friday in June at the Downtown Market Square, you can have fun with tons of dancing and music. Everyone should visit this fun city event.

According to Downtown Pittsburgh, there will also be a range of other entertaining activities at Dancing in the Square this June. There will be live performances from professional dance troupes, a DJ, and more. Plus, you can participate in the dancing, which ranges from ballroom to swing and polka.

How did this all begin? Thanks to a great response to the National Ballroom Week Celebration, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership decided to put on a massive event for the whole city. Often drawing hundreds of participants, you won’t believe how much fun Dancing in the Square can be.

This free event was created in conjunction with USA Dance and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. Events this year will be on June 3, June 10, June 17, and June 24. The Dancing starts at 5pm in the Market Square, just a short, 20 minute drive from our dealership, so don’t be late!
