2016 MINI Takes the States

MINI is taking the United States by storm and to celebrate, the automaker is putting on an event that literally celebrates the idea. MINI Takes the States is a customer-based event that will depart from Atlanta, Georgia on July 9, 2016. By July 23, 2016, drivers will arrive in Palm Springs, California. The two-week event is sure to be an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience so if you own a MINI, be sure to attend!

Held once every two years, this year’s MINI Takes the States leaves from the Atlanta Motor Speedway and heads north to Charlotte, North Carolina. Attendees will hit plenty of major cities along the way, including our very own Pittsburgh before heading to the furthest northern point on their trip, St. Ignace, Michigan.

In 2014, MINI Takes the States traversed 5,142 miles, starting in San Francisco and ending up at Boston. On that cross country adventure, drivers motored through Texas, the Rocky Mountains, and even Canada.

MINI owners from around the country are invited to attend but must drive a MINI vehicle in the rally. Rallies will be held in each designated city along the way. We hope that even if you don’t have the time to take two weeks getting to know your MINI and fellow motoring enthusiasts as you drive cross country that you will at least stop by the Pittsburgh, PA rally point on Tuesday, July 12th.

We here at MINI of Pittsburgh can’t wait to see all of the attendees at the 2016 MINI Takes the States and hope that you make it out there to take part in this awesome drive!

MINI Searches for Candidates for its Defy Labels Contest

If you watched the Super Bowl, you probably saw the “Defy Labels” advertisement that MINI produced. The campaign was so successful that MINI has decided to expand upon the campaign in a big way!

A recent MINI press release announced that MINI is searching for candidates for its Defy Labels Contest.

Between now and April 7, MINI will accept candidates for the Defy Labels campaign. People can nominate candidates by uploading an image of them and an explanation on how they defy labels to MINI-DefyLabels.com.

From there, an independent panel of judges will select four of the nominees to help kick of the MINI TAKES THE STATES rally!

“People have put labels on the MINI brand for years,” says David Duncan, vice president MINI of the Americas. “We’ve been called the ‘small car’ or the ‘cute car,’ but we know we’re more than that.   Despite those labels, we’ve continued to be inventive and innovative with our product line. The Defy Labels Contest isn’t about rebellion, but rather creating your own path regardless of the labels you’ve been given; a concept the MINI brand understands and embodies.”

If you know of someone who “defies labels”, nominate them as a candidate for the competition today, and check out the series of MINI’s “Defying Labels” videos below.

MINI Motoring Extravaganza

On Sunday November 8th, we are hosting a MINI Motoring Extravaganza, and yes, the event will be as fun as it sounds.

First, you will get the chance to take your MINI or one of our John Cooper Works MINIs out on the track to see what it can really do, and as we all know, MINI handling and performance is legendary. Don’t want to drive? That’s okay, you can also just be a passenger and let someone else take the wheel.

Then, you have the chance to talk to our service team to discuss how to best take care of your MINI, gather some MINI maintenance tips, talk about DIY MINI care, and get some winter driving tips straight from the experts.

You’ll also get the chance to talk to some local MINI designers who can give you some great fun ideas on how to customize your MINI, or help you figure out how your MINI design can come to life.

Cap this all off with breakfast and lunch provided by us at MINI of Pittsburgh and you have one of the best Sunday Fundays we could imagine.

This fun event takes place from 8AM-4PM at the Pittsburgh International Racetrack. Sign up for this fun event here. We hope to see you there!

MINI On The MACK Nearly Sets World Record

MINI on the MACK

All of the MINI assembling before starting their drive across the Mackinac Bridge.

For some people, just owning a MINI is fun enough in and of itself. For most of us, it gives usaccess to a lot of cool events and a seriously cool subculture. For instance, take the recent attempt we supported by MINI owners to break the world’s record for largest parade of MINIs.

The current record was set back in 2009 in London. That record-setting event involved 1,450 MINIs. The most recent attempt to break this record was part of the MINI on the MACK, a rally-celebration that occurs every other year in August and features a horde of MINIs traversing the Straits of Mackinac. We helped fund mulitple MINI motorers as they ventured up to Michigan for this fun event.

Ultimately, the MINI on the MACK saw 1,319 different MINI cars traveling together on the beautiful Mackinac Bridge connecting the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan. Unfortunately the world record was not broken. We were short by a mere 132 MINIs.

The good news is that a US record was set! So, the event was still meaningful, but not just for setting records. For participants, it was just another memorable way to celebrate the style and fun of MINI.

MINI TAKES THE STATES is the perfect summer adventure for all MINI lovers. Are you going to this fun event?

MINI is a company always looking for more innovative ways to get their customers involved. Here at MINI of Pittsburgh, we see just how into their vehicles MINI owners are. Some are so attached to their MINIs that they drive them across the country!

At least, they did in 2014. And they’ll get another chance to do so in 2016, according to a MINI press release.

MINI just announced the dates for MINI TAKES THE STATES 2016. The cross-country journey will begin on Saturday, July 9, 2016 and finish on Saturday, July 23, 2016.

In 2014, MINI owners drove 5, 142 miles from San Francisco to Boston. Along the way, big MINI memories were made.

A portion of the registration fees will go to a yet-to-be-announced charity. In 2014, a portion of the fees went to the Best Friends Animal Society.

“MINI TAKES THE STATES 2014 was such an amazing experience that we couldn’t wait to announce the dates for 2016,” said David Duncan, Vice President MINI of the Americas, in the press release.

We can’t wait to see what Pittsburgh MINI owners are ready to take a trip during MINI TAKES THE STATES 2016!

MINI Sponsored the Burton US Open in Vail, Colorado

Early this month, MINI sponsored the Burton US Open snowboarding competition in Vail, Colorado at Golden Peak. This is the fifth year MINI has been the “presenting” partner for the Burton US Open.

“MINI and Burton share a unique bond in having their loyal communities rally around fun and adventure,” said Patrick McKenna, Head of Product and Events at MINI USA, in a statement. “Both of our brands fuel and embrace a passion among our communities that allows us to become a part of their lives which is such a rare and coveted privilege.”

In addition to being the presenting sponsor, MINI also presented the MINI Feature Award. This award is given to the team of slopestyle designers who create the most innovative snowboarding feature. Teams from the Burton High Fives in New Zealand, the Burton European Open at LAAX, and the Burton US Open at Vail compete for this honor. This year’s award was given to the team from LAAX who created a halfpipe structure with two corners and multiple straight jump options. They won the grand both prize of $5,000.

Anyone who attended the Burton US Open didn’t have to look far for MINI products, as various MINI vehicles were on display at the Sponsor Village at Golden Peak and in Burton retail stores in both Arrabelle and Vail Village.

MINI ConvertibleThe red carpet saw a new celebrity this year after the Grammy Awards, the new MINI Convertible!  MINI made its debut as the official partner of Warner Music Group at their very exclusive Grammy after party.  This year, the partnership consisted of the new MINI Countrymen chauffeuring celebrities to the after party and a MINI Convertible welcoming them on the red carpet as a VIP guestbook.

MINI and Burton Snowboards Team Up for Creative Use of Space

MINI Countryman

Fastplants, ally-oops, seatbelts…do any of these terms ring a bell?  Maybe for snowboarders they do, because yes, it is that time of year again.  MINI and Burton Snowboards are partnering up another year for the Creative Use of Space initiative- and it’s going to be better than ever!

Snowboarders this year are going to have to think outside the box.  “Progressive old school,” according to MINI Space is what it will take to win these competitions.  This means tricks like fastplants, ally-oops and seatbelts.  It’s not just the tricks themselves either; the competitors must integrate each different aspect of the course in a cohesive manner.  The prizes at the Canadian and New Zealand competitions are $2,500 and the European and US Opens both award $5,000 to both men and women winners.

MINI is not only supporting the snowboarders that compete this year but also the designers who build and shape the mountain’s creative slopes.  MINI will give $5,000 to each mountain park crew that is on the Burton Global Open Series tour stop.  The money will be used to design a terrain inspired by the Creative Use of Space Award.  At the end of the tour, the crew that designed the best slope will win $5,000 in cash.  The overall winners for both men and women will take home a brand new MINI Countryman.

We are excited to see the increased level of competition and creativity that the craftsman and snowboards will bring to the Burton Global Series.  If you’re a snowboarder, strap on your board and head to the slopes!  Keep track of what’s going on in the games at MINI Space.

Local Pennsylvania dealership, MINI of Pittsburgh, is excited to see what the creative minds design.
